Day Two Olive Oil After an abundant breakfast, you will have a wonderful opportunity to discover the secrets of the “yellow gold” from Tuscany (olive oil). Here we take an interesting route passing the natural beauty of the Val d Arno where for hundreds of years has produced the Olive’s Oil with attention and respect for the olive tree by cold pressing in a traditional oil press (a crushing press), careful selection of the olives, and by harvesting at the correct time. It is only through respect of the time honoured traditions are they able to produce oils which retain all the character of the original fruit. Later that day your cooking lesson with Chef Claudio starts where the menu is only limited by your imagination. Cooking is hard work so when your are finished you can enjoy the fruits of your labour. Day Three Chianti After breakfast you will departure with driver/host to the beautiful wine region along the Chianti road, enjoying the endless vineyards and olive groves until you reach the beautiful small town of Radda. Here you will not miss a visit to the medieval merchant square, appreciating all its history and beauty. Our next stop is at an interesting artisan cheese maker to discover the traditional Pecorino cheese of Chianti. Here with the owner you will get the chance to taste the three things he has dedicated his life to, Pecorino cheese (aged and young), olive oil, and honey (flower and the Tuscan classic chestnut). Continuing trough the charming countryside we’ll discover a balsamic vinegar farm where you will learn how it is made and get a chance to taste. From there we will go to the Volpaia village where you will visit the winery, taste the wine and enjoy a light lunch. Our final stop will be a very special family owned winery where together with the oenologist and owner Giuseppe you have the opportunity to take a dinner together with him and taste his outstanding SuperTuscan and Vin Santo wines. Day Four The Best Of The SeasonAfter breakfast you will have the chance to immerse yourself into local tradition by experiencing the essence of Tuscan cuisine, simply fresh ingredients. Your experience today will depend on what is in season at the time of your trip. Here is a sample of some of the activities you can expect. • Harvesting Grapes (October) • Harvesting Olives (November) • Truffle Hunting • Mushrooms Hunting (June/July or September) • Harvesting Saffron (October) • Fresh Fruit or Berry Picking (July or August ) • Chestnuts harvest (November) Then to finish the day you will cook with the ingredients you have gathered. If hunting for or picking your ingredients sounds like to much work we can always arrange to visit a local market as an alternative. Day Five Montepulciano/PienzaAfter breakfast you today you will discover the Orcia Valley where you will visit Pienza and Montepuciano and the Artisan laboratory. Today will be a feast for the palate as well as the eyes. This excursion will take us through the delightful Val D'orcia, where the already beautiful landscape was sculptured during the renaissance not only to meet agricultural needs but also to reflect the aesthetic sense of the period, and this concept has been maintained to the present day. There is nothing casual or even rational regarding the roads, hills and vegetation. All have been put together to please the eye, and above all the spirit of the traveler, inspiring painters and writers from all over the world. Recently Unesco has elevated the Val D'Orcia to a World Heritage status - need we say more? Your first stop will be the small but fascinating town of Pienza, built during the renaissance but now world renowned for its pecorino cheese. From Pienza we will continue our trip to Montepulciano where along the way we will stop at a famous cheese maker to taste several varieties of pecorino. Once we reach Montipulciano we will stop at a winery to taste the wines that make the region famous and enjoy a delicious light lunch Day Six Bread and Salami Laboratories and San GimignanoDeparture with driver/host where the morning will be dedicated to visiting two local laboratories to discover Tuscan Bread and Tuscan Salami. After the laboratories we will visit the famous town of San Gimignano. The emotions of San Gimignano start while we are still approaching, the town. Now and then between the trees in the distance, she briefly appears like a fairy tale mirage, a skyline of towers like a thirteenth century Manhattan. We arrive at the town walls and then walk under the ancient gateway into the paved promenade with it’s beautifully preserved stone walled buildings occupied by handcraft workshops and antique stores. Walking up the main street to the square is like a walk back in time, the only thing out of place, is our modern day clothing. The promenade then leads us to the two main squares, gently covered by a warm carpet of red bricks, all around, noble palaces, towers, churches and endless wonderful views. From San Gimignano you will arrive at the world Famous Fonterutoli where you will enjoy a wonderful wine dinner at “Osteria di Fonterutoli” Day SevenFollowing breakfast, a reluctant farewell and transfer back to Florence airport or train station. |
