Chianti Tours![]() The reputation of the wine produced in the Chianti Classico district was established long ago and, as often occurs when a product is highly successful, numerous imitations surfaced over the years. As a result, Cosimo III, Grand Duke of Tuscany, decided in 1716 to issue an edict in which he officially recognized the boundaries of the Chianti district. Not all the wine produced in Chianti is Chianti Classico. Provenance from a determined territory is not sufficient to permit use of an appellation. The producer must respect all the rules stipulated in the production code. The first version of the DOCG production code for Chianti and Chianti Classico dates back to 1984, when Chianti Classico was still considered a sub-denomination of the omni-comprehensive Chianti DOCG, although with separate regulations that imposed production rules more stringent than those stipulated for the other Chiantis. But it was only in 1996 that Chianti Classico obtained the definitive consecration of its importance and its precedence. With the issuance of the Ministerial Decree of August 5, Chianti Classico was recognized as an independent appellation, establishing once and for all its diversity and independence of the other Chianti wines. There are several options for day trips to Chianti
Option 1Departure in the morning (typically about 10AM) with driver/host to the beautiful wine region along the Chianti road , enjoying the endless scenery until you reach the beautiful small town of Radda where you can visit the medieval merchant square. The first stop is an interesting small farm to visit a cheese maker where you will discover the traditional Pecorino cheese of Tuscany. Here with the owner you will taste delicious cheese, olive oil and honey. Continuing trough the charming countryside well discover a balsamic vinegar producer where you can taste the traditional aged balsamic vinegar and have a light lunch. Continuing on you will reach your final stop at a very special family owned winery where together with the winemaker and owner you have the opportunity to taste one of the most famous Super Tuscan and perhaps the best Vin Santos produced in Tuscany.
Option 2This option is geared more towards the wine enthusiast and your time will be dedicated solely to visiting wineries. On a typical day you can visit 3-4 wineries depending on how long you stay. Here you have the freedom to choose the wineries (tasting fees may be additional) or we are happy to choose for you (tasting fees will be included). Each estate will be a new adventure as each winery puts their spin on the classic Tuscan tradition of winemaking. Tasting is hard work so when you are ready for lunch we will recommend a typical Tuscan restaurant frequented by locals.
Option 3This day you will experience the bounty of Chianti. We begin by taking you to the heart of Chianti where you will visit one winery on your way to the towns of Radda and Greve where you can enjoy the quaint squares and small streets and have a leisurely lunch. After visiting the towns you will have just enough time to visit another winery on your return.
